The martingale collar is a specialized type of Hound collar
that helps prevent a dog from slipping out of their collar.
Unlike the traditional dog collar that have to be buckled and uncomfortably tight to prevent escape, a Martingale collar is loose and comfortable, until engaged, adjusted properly, a Martingale collar never chokes, but constricts snugly to prevent escape.
The Martingale collar is made with two loops, the large loop is placed around the dog's neck and adjusted to fit loosely.
The leash is then clipped to the D ring on the smaller loop. When the Hound tries to pull their head out of the collar, the tension on the leash pulls the small loop which makes the large loop smaller and tighter on the neck preventing escape.
All collars present the possibility of chocking, you should never tie your Hound outside while wearing a Martingale style collar. Also never attach your Hounds tags to the D ring chances they may fall off.
ADJUSTING THE MARTINGALE COLLAR
Move the collar up to narrowest part of the neck, pull upwards on the control loop. (this is the part that the D ring is attached to). The two medal slides should come together BUT NOT TOUCH. There should be at least a two finger distance between the two slides (approx 1 inch).
The proper adjustments will ensure the collar will continue to tighten when you need it most, preventing the collar from slipping off.
The Martingale collar is not only designed for Greyhounds, all breeds can wear it.
The Martingale collar is known as a gentle choker and is great to use for training and very comfortable.
